Maddox Jay Carlsen made his early appearance into our world during the early hours of 12:48AM on June 14, 2023. Early signs of labor started on Monday the 12th, by Tuesday morning I was rushed by ambulance from Pen Bay Medical Center to Maine Medical Center, and after a long full day of labor, our Maddy boy came into our world and absolutely took our breath away. Our miracle. 

He was pretty quickly swept away to the NICU after a few moments of us holding him in tears filled with gratefulness, exhaustion, awe, and the purest love we’ve ever felt. Adam followed him down to the NICU and little Maddy Boy latched onto his finger while he underwent all his procedures and testing. 

After what felt like an eternity, I was wheeled down to the NICU to hold him. They gave us 20 minutes before we had to go to our new room on the Mother and Baby unit. It felt like my heart was being left behind me, hooked up to a bunch of wires in an isolette, as we left his room in the NICU. 

They told us the NICU was open to us 24/7. All I wanted was to be there with him. Nothing else mattered but this beautiful boy we had been blessed with. 

We finally nodded off to sleep for a couple hours around 4AM knowing our little warrior, although a floor too far away from us, was here and he was perfect and he was ours.

“Faithful you are, faithful forever you will be, Faithful you are. All your promises are yes and amen.” 

This verse from this song has been our anthem the entire pregnancy. From his conception, to his Cystic Fibrosis diagnosis, to now his premature arrival – Adam and I have leaned heavily on God’s faithfulness and provision. We have trusted that Maddox has been in the palm of God’s hand every step of the way and he has covered us with strength and deep peace knowing this is exactly what he intended for our little boy. Thank you Jesus that all of your promises are yes and amen.
